When considering your perfect floor plan, ask yourself some questions. It's important that your new home works for you. Below are some things to consider when picking or creating a floor plan.
Is our family going to grow? If so, an unfinished basement provides an inexpensive way to add additional space which you can finish at a later time.
What age are our children? If your children are young, a floor plan that has bedrooms close to the master makes the most sense. If your children are older, space between the master bedroom and chldrens's rooms provides privacy.
Are our children close in age? If so, possibly consider a home with Jack-and-Jill bathroom-this allows one child access to the sink while the other one uses the shower to make mornings smoother.
Do we plan to work at home? If so, consider a plan with a home office or have us convert a bedroom into an office by adding french doors.
Will clients visit our home? Make sure your office is accessible without entering the private areas of the home. The Monarch plan is a great example of this.
Do we want a home for entertainment, a home for living, or a mix of both? A home for a couple with children who have moved out the home, a large family, or plans for regular entertaining might find more benefit in a formal dining room. Others may prefer to reallocate that same space to make other family areas larger. Parents who want to encourage interaction with their children while cooking or helping with homework may want counter-height seating at the island. Others may prefer traditional bar height seating at their bar for separation between spaces.
Do we want to be the relatives who host Christmas dinner? Do we want to be home gourmets? If so, consider a separate cooktop and wall ovens. This allows for pots and pan drawers under the cooktop for easy access.
